Crowns and Veneers for Isleworth Patients

A crown rebuilds a tooth that has been broken, root-treated or heavily filled and can no longer be relied on. A veneer changes the front surface of a tooth that is sound but discoloured, chipped or out of line. They solve different problems, and being clear about which one you actually need is the difference between a result that lasts and one that does not.

DentEuropa is a private and NHS dental practice on Bath Road in Hounslow. Isleworth is our nearest neighbouring town – about two miles, under ten minutes by car, and a direct train. Patients come to us from Isleworth, Osterley, Syon and Brentford.

Crown, veneer and bonding treatments we provide

Zirconia and Empress crowns

All-ceramic crowns have no metal core, avoiding a metal edge at the gumline. The appearance can still change with gum recession, staining or changes to the underlying tooth. Zirconia is the stronger of the two and suits back teeth and heavy bites; Empress is more translucent and is usually the better choice at the front. Both carry a 10-year guarantee.

Porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns

Porcelain over a metal core. Less lifelike than all-ceramic but robust and less expensive, and still the sensible option in some situations. 10-year guarantee.

Ceramic-fused-to-gold crowns

Ceramic over a Swiss 86% gold core. Gold is kind to the opposing teeth and seals exceptionally well, which is why it is still chosen for back teeth expected to last decades. 10-year guarantee.

Veneers

Thin ceramic facings bonded to the front of the teeth. Because preparing a veneer removes enamel permanently, we will say so plainly when whitening, bonding or orthodontics would achieve what you want without cutting sound teeth.

Composite bonding

Tooth-coloured composite shaped directly onto the tooth in a single visit. It repairs chips, closes small gaps and reshapes edges. Composite bonding can be removed or replaced by a dentist; the effect on the underlying enamel depends on the original treatment and the removal process. See composite bonding.

Bridges

A fixed replacement for a missing tooth supported by the teeth on either side. Where those neighbouring teeth are healthy, a dental implant is usually the better answer because it does not require cutting them down. We will explain both.

How much do crowns and veneers cost?

Consultation and OPG panoramic X-ray: £100. If you proceed with treatment, this fee is deducted from your treatment cost.

Treatment From
Zirconia or Empress crown – 10-year guarantee £500
Porcelain-fused-to-metal crown – 10-year guarantee £450
Ceramic-fused-to-gold crown, Swiss 86% gold – 10-year guarantee £1,150
Composite bonding, per tooth £160
White composite filling – 1-year guarantee £100
Root canal treatment: 1 canal, including a filling (from) £350
Bleaching with dental cleaning £300
Temporary crown, each £25

A badly broken tooth often needs root canal treatment before a crown can be fitted, so ask for the total rather than the crown fee alone. Prices are based on work from our overseas laboratory; a UK laboratory is available and quoted separately. See the full price list and our treatment warranties. Payment can be spread over up to 60 months at 0% interest.

What treatment involves

1. Assessment

Examination and X-rays to establish whether the tooth has enough sound structure left to hold a crown, and whether the nerve is healthy. You leave with a written plan and a cost, including anything that has to happen first.

2. Preparation and impressions

The tooth is shaped under local anaesthetic and an impression or digital scan is taken. Shade is matched to your neighbouring teeth in daylight, not under the surgery lamp.

3. Temporary crown

You leave with a temporary while the laboratory makes the permanent one, usually one to two weeks.

4. Fitting

The permanent crown is tried in, checked against your bite and the shade, and only then cemented. If it is not right, it goes back to the laboratory – a crown you are not happy with on the day is not one you will be happy with in five years.

Common questions

Crown or veneer – which do I need?

A crown covers the whole tooth and is for teeth that are structurally weak. A veneer covers the front only and is for appearance where the tooth is otherwise sound. The X-ray and examination decide it, not the price list.

How long does a crown last?

Our crowns carry a 10-year guarantee, subject to our written warranty terms. What actually shortens a crown's life is decay at the margin, so cleaning around it matters more than the material.

Do veneers ruin your teeth?

Preparing a veneer removes enamel that does not grow back, so the tooth will always need a covering afterwards. That is a real commitment and we would rather you heard it from us before treatment than after. Composite bonding can be removed or replaced by a dentist; the effect on the underlying enamel depends on the original treatment and the removal process.

Will a crown match my other teeth?

All-ceramic crowns match well because they transmit light the way enamel does. Shade is checked before cementing.

Do I need a referral?

No. You can book directly. We also accept referrals from other dentists.
